Sayuri Dreaming

Sayuri Dreaming by Mario de Rivera
Sayuri Dreaming by Mario de Rivera

Inspired by Mario de Rivera's painting

1.
Alice, Bondi and Robin Egg,
how do you peel voices from stones?

If you could make sleek wings,
gold-leafed heart, trace of nautilus—
if you could make them glide
against a force and hold them,
shut eyelids that absorb
red light, hint of teal,
turquoise and viridian.

2.
It takes 130 herbs extracts
to make Chartreuse, the patient
blending, liquid mint,
crush of emeralds.

And yes!
Five degrees of bitterness
for the thirsty tongue,
swallowing all known shades
in the farthest corners
of wet cyan.
