This book is a narrative of the life and career of Rosario de Guzman-Lingat, one of the most prolific but understudied writers of the 1960s and 1970s. It traces key events in her life and shows how these complex experiences in her life and that of her nation could have shaped the directions she pursued as a popular writer for weekly magazines. In a relatively short period of time, she managed to produce a voluminous amount of texts in the various genres: prose fiction (novel and short story), komiks stories, teleplays, essays, and occasional poetry. Accepted by the readers of "Liwayway" and of numerous komiks magazines (thereby making her a "popular" writer), Rosario de Guzman-Lingat also earned the admiration and respect of some of the country's influential critics for the superb realism of such works as "Kung Wala na ang Tag-araw" and "Ano Ngayon, Ricky?"
In attempting to understand Rosario de Guzman-Lingat's life and career, this book also provides a space within which certain crucial issues in Philippine cultural studies are addressed.
